The COOL-LAMPS collaboration is based at The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, at The University of Chicago. COOL-LAMPS was initiated in December 2019 as part of a junior undergraduate-level course to find strongly lensed systems in recent ground-based public imaging survey data.
Based on the pedagogical framework CURE (Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience), this class and research collaboration has offered an unprecedented opportunity for spectrophotometric characterization of strong gravitational lenses, lensed galaxies and quasars across cosmic time, as well as a demonstration of the principles of an equitable classroom in action. COOL-LAMPS also consists of collaborators - faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students and staff — at The University of Michigan, Center for Astrophysics | Harvard and Smithsonian, Argonne National Laboratory, and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
